Dr. Rhodri JONES

An applied physicist at CERN since 1996, following a PhD in Atomic & Laser Physics from Swansea University (Wales, UK), he joined the Beam Instrumentation Group, where he played a key role in delivering the Beam Position System for the LHC. He served as Group Leader for 12 years, from 2009 to 2020. Between 2021 and 2025, he led the Beams Department, with the mandate to recommission the accelerator complex after Long Shutdown 2 and prepare for LS3, while building a collaborative controls structure. As the Head of the TE Department, he aims to build on the strong foundations already in place, foster a collaborative spirit and a positive working environment, provide strong, supportive and transparent leadership — always mindful that the true strength of the department lies in the expertise of its people and the way they work together — and get to know his teams so that, collectively, they can shape the next chapter of this Department.
